Introduction to Portable Digital Microscopes in Research and Education

As we all know, the microscope has been an important and indispensable instrument in laboratory teaching and scientific research for a long time. According to the different types of microscopes, they can be divided into optical, electronic and digital microscopes, which together build up different problem-solving application systems. The basic principles, applications, advantages and disadvantages of different types of microscopes are explained and analyzed, which are of great significance for laboratories to select and apply microscopes according to their needs.

As technology advances, microscopes have been added some functions to become new types of microscopes, such as polarized microscope, coaxial light microscope, etc. Digital microscopes are also condensed and compact, and portable digital microscopes appear. Here we focus on the analysis of the portable digital microscope.

Carrying out creation, cultivating students' creative thinking ability, and guiding students to conduct research is the current trend of teaching, which is the reason why the new curriculum materials now increase many research experiments. And in both teaching and research, there is time to be not just fixed indoors, but in the field site. When conducting microscopic research on plants and insects in the field, traditional optical microscope can't meet the needs of field research due to inconvenience to carry and difficult operation, etc. The emergence of portable digital microscope makes up for the insufficiency of traditional microscope and becomes a good supplement for microscopic research.

Portable digital microscope is a high-tech product developed and successfully developed by combining sharp optical microscope technology, advanced photoelectric conversion technology, liquid crystal screen technology, and concentrated and melted compact. The microscopic field of study can be reproduced on the monitor instead of the conventional two-eye observation, and the work efficiency can be improved.

(1) Easy and accurate demonstration: the digital interactive system has a superior demonstration function, which can project the image of the demonstration specimen onto the screen through the teacher's multi-functional digital microscope, or transmit it to each student's computer monitor, so that all students can observe at the same time, and have a high degree of unity on the content of the shown teaching, to avoid causing errors in understanding.

(2) Effective and instructional: The application of digital interactive system enables the teacher's computer to clearly display the dynamic changes of each student under the microscope, to keep track of the students' research and the accuracy of the students' observation of the microscope content, and to find out the problems in the experiment and give guidance.

(3) Good two-way communication: With the use of digital interactive teaching system, students can ask for teacher's help through the questioning system, and the pointer in the microscope can be anywhere in the microscope screen, so that both sides of the discussion of the content at a glance. The communication between teachers and students becomes very intuitive and effective.

(4) Convenient and flexible image processing: There is a camera button on the student side of the digital interactive system, so that students can take pictures of the images they need to keep at any time, which is convenient for keeping research records. At the same time, the system has image processing, analysis, long time digital and other functions, in the experimental process, the teacher can record images under the microscope at any time, capture the valuable picture data in a timely manner, so as to achieve long-term preservation and reproduction of images at any time; and can make the necessary processing, cropping and special processing of special requirements of the image or the image does not meet the requirements, in order to meet the end of the research display.

The portable digital microscope has been widely used in paleontology, plant and insect research to support national education. With development of technology, digital microscopes are becoming increasingly popular due to their portability, affordability, and direct imaging of observations.
